Presented by LexArts for Breeders Cup, A Canvas of Silks brings together 54 different Lexington artists for an open air gallery of Kentucky themed paintings on jockey forms. The show is presented at Gatton Park, Tandy Park as well as the Keeneland Horse Park. The paintings are available through an online auction at the link below.
This was a really fun painting for me. I got to move around a form like I was laying out a tattoo and even gave a nod to Japanese cherry blossom motifs but with dogwood instead. I wanted lots of painterly marks and some spots are moments captured better than I imagined them. Check out the completed work and some close up of some of those choice moments.
